Be careful at an outlet mall near you *UPDATE
This came from a local (Austin Area) mama list.
Her husband speaks out:
The funny Kari Anne Roy took it on over at her blog:
The basics, Disney store manager refused to allow the mother to nurse in a changing room for "security" reasons. The mamas then took their nurslings outside to a bench and nursed them. Segway driving security gaurd came out and notified them that a place in the bathroom was set aside for nurslings. The mamas ended up leaving the outlet mall.
:bfs :gloomy:

i was just coming here to post a link since my friend in austin sent it to me. ya beat me to it, jessaries!
^_^:
I emailed both companies, anxious to hear what they have to say.
^_^:
I'm an hour from that store and would LOVE to nurse in front, inside or on top of that Disney store - who's with me??????
^_^:
wow. My family just relocated from central Texas and frequently shopped at that outlet mall since it opened last August. I have nursed DS quite a few times all over the outlets and never had a problem. I would have pushed those security guards off their scooters if they had asked me to go to the bathroom...Grrr
^_^:
i sent a note to simon. will try to do disney later.
^_^:
I live a few minutes away from this Outlet. I would love to go nurse at the Disney store.
^_^:
Doesn't Texas has a law protecting public breastfeeding?
^_^:
Why did the husband have to preface his article with "my wife is as discreet as possible..." Why does that matter? I hate it when people say things like that, as if nursing moms should apologize if someone sees *gasp* a breast while she is *gasp* breastfeeding.
^_^:
I thought this title was for me! I had the exact same thing happen to me at Tanger Outlet Mall here in Gonzales, LA.

I hate it when people say things like that, as if nursing moms should apologize if someone sees *gasp* a breast while she is *gasp* breastfeeding. I agree. At the same time, pointing out how discreet, or in some cases almost invisible, a nursing mum is just brings home the message that it's not about "indecent exposure." Any public breastfeeding, even when no breast is visible, can receive this kind of treatment.

I hate it when people say things like that, as if nursing moms should apologize if someone sees *gasp* a breast while she is *gasp* breastfeeding. Because to some people, it DOES matter. To me, it does. I do not like my breast hanging out for all to see. Obviously this woman doesn't, either. Besides, he mentions later that the security guard said both her breasts were hanging out - the father is just being pre-emptive and saying that no, they were not. His wife is discreet. And that is NOT a problem.
I get so annoyed with some posters who have to nitpick everything about the way a mother is comfortable nursing. So what if she chooses to use a cover? So what if she likes to use a private, set-apart room for nursing? So what if she chooses to be discreet? It's her prerogative and she should be praised for nursing at all, not nitpicked to death over her choices as to how to nurse.

Sorry I didn't update yesterday!
Here is a local news story that announces Sunday morning's nursing event and MDC got a quick (1 second) view on the news here. :o
The tasteful thing is mentioned several times. I wholeheartedly support a nursing mom, if she feels the need to be tasteful or not. My view is it's about my child being fed, not my body being exposed or not. :duck: :wink
^_^:
I'm so happy for you that your story got such good media coverage. I too am bothered by the constant use of the "tasteful and discreet" thing (what does that actually mean anyway???), but I think its great that you got this attention from a mainstream media souce. Good for you for standing up for yourself, and I hope the nurse-in goes beautifully!

I am pretty proud of her for standing up for herself and seeking support though. :wink
