clogged duct??

so yesterday my left boob was all itchy. and that nipple seemed more senitive when ds nursed... i was scared we were getting thrush now this morning i wake up and i feel a hard lump on the top side of my left boob... what do u think?

^_^:
The ithcing nipple could be thrush--use genetianviolet--as for the duct--it sounds clogged place a warm -hot face cloth on it and lay baby on the bed. Get on your hands and kness, lean over baby and position yourself so that baby is putting pressure on the area of that cut. massage as baby nurses. This has helped me many times to avoid mastitis...

^_^:
I second the massage and nurse, massage and nurse nurse nurse. I hope it clear up mama! Try to hand express in the warm shower as well.

I second the massaging part. I always take a hot shower and let the water beat down on it, then I rub, rub, rub!!!!!! You will have to start towards the base of your breast(now this might really hurt, but the satisfaction of unclogging it is SO worth it!!!!) in the vicinity of where the lump is, going up toward the nipple-take your nuckles, or finger tip and press straight up the vein that will most likely look aggrivated, and will be a lump. The goal is to get what is unclogged out. so, keep pressing and pushing, not unlike squeezing the last bit out of an old toothpaste tube:LOL It will look very thick in consistancy. Keep this up throughout the day until you feel releived that you got it. Check back and make sure that when baby nurses next time that there is milk flowing from it. When you have thrush, or clogged ducts, your body will also slow down milk production to accomodate, so baby may seem fussy and may want to help nurse it out or may not.....Once you get it unclogged, nurse to get the milk flowing. And remember, even though it may hurt-it's better than letting it sit and getting an infection.Good luck! Also, take probiotics.:thumb

Yep, clogged ducts hurt but mastitis hurts more. Get that duct unclogged before it turns into mastitis!!!!

Lots of hot packs all day long and nursing in a position where baby's chin is pointed at the clog - really helps.

^_^:
I had a clogged duct. I massaged it on and off for 5 hours while watching tv, etc. I nursed a lot on the affected side, took a warm shower, and it was better the next day. Nursing on that side REALLY helps.

^_^:
:) My personal go-to method for clogged ducts is to wrap a heating pad around the breast for a good 10 minutes or so, and then have baby nurse. That's broken up even my most stubborn clogs!!
Good luck!!

My doc said (and I researched it) that Ibuprofin was good in addition to the things recommended by those above (hot packs, having baby's chin angled at direction of clogged duct during nursing). If you're looking for a little added relief ibuprofin is helpful.

^_^:
One other thing, you may want to check your bra and see if it's contributing to the problem. My underwire bras were the culprit.
