To child

I have the opportunity to expose DD to chicken pox but ...

I've been reading up on this & doing searches here and I'm a bit :dizzy:
My DD is 5. A friend is also 5 & just came down with CP. She (the friend) was vaccinated. My DS just turned 6 months old yesterday. My DC have never been vaxed.
I explained as best I could to DD & she told me she is ok with getting CP now. I don't want DS to get it though. I thought since he was bf, he would probably be immune but I found several posts here this morning from mamas whose bfed babes came down w/ it.
Question about my DD - Does it matter that this little girl had been previously vaccinated? Would DD be exposed to the right strain? I'm not clear on this at all.
Question about my DS - My baby struggled with some respiratory issues and only is now what I would consider completely healthy. It seems to me to be too big of a risk to him but maybe I'm worrying about nothing?
I'm torn. I'm going to keep reading up on this, but in the meantime - do you all have any advice?

This might be a strain that was caused from a vax. So, it'll be a little weaker, but it'll still expose your child to the disease, so that's a good thing. My children got a strain that was passed down about 5 times that we know of. My 18month old didn't even stop going outside the whole time. He had a little fever on day 6 of exposure but then didn't have any fever or anything during the outbreak and it was a big outbreak.
I would do it. It's likely to be weak, but it'll help with immunity.

I am confused. Was dd vaccinated for cp?
If not, I see no reason why she shouldn't be exposed.
Your son most likely won't get it or just a very mild case since he is bf.

Sorry, I tried to be as clear as possible but had a bouncy wriggly baby on my lap :lol No, my DC have never been vaccinated. The little girl who has it currently was vaxed previously. I wasn't sure if that was important - not sure if it made a difference. I remember reading somewhere that someone didn't want their DC to catch CP from someone who had been vaccinated.... just trying to figure that out.
And I've been so careful w/ my DS's health after his sort of rough start -- the possibility of even a mild case of CP makes me kind of nervous -- but maybe a mild case would not really bother him.

Was the little girl just vaccinated a couple of weeks ago?
Or vaccinated a long time ago and the vax just didn't work, and now she has CP?

Lisa Thank you Lisa -- I'm leaning toward going for it - but DH isn't currently on board with it so that's another problem....

She was vaxed 2 years ago.

Honestly, is it was me, I would probably expose your dd. However if you are not comfortable with your ds getting it,I wouldn't. I think your ds would be unlikely to get it, being only 6 months and bf, but it is not impossible. CP has being going around where I am recently. None of the babies under 1 year have got it apart from 1 (out of 7 under 1's who were all exposed.)

If you don't want your ds to get it then I wouldn't expose either of your children.
My dd was exposed when she was 5 yo and ds was 5 months old. At first I was thinking I just wanted to expose dd and not ds, but while we were at the "chicken pox party" a mother informed me that if you have two cycles of cp back-to-back in your house the second cycle is usually worse. I don't know how true this is...
At the time ds was very healthy and ebf (so I didn't even know if he would get it). He sat on my lap the whole time and only had limited contact with the infected child, as in "say goodbye to the baby" to get him to breath on ds a little. My ds broke out with his first pox a couple of days before dd did. He did have a much milder case and didn't seem too bothered by any of it, but he did indeed get it.
I wouldn't rely on your ds being ebf to provide him with immunity.

She was vaxed 2 years ago. Then what the girl has is "regular" CP. There's really only one type of CP. Technically different continents have their own strains, but they're all the same thing and it takes genetic sequencing to tell the difference. CP is one of the most stable viruses known to man.

I wouldn't do it if you're worried about your baby. I'm all for CP exposure and I'd almost never tell someone not to do it, but if it were me and I was worried that it might make my baby seriously ill, I wouldn't do it. Your baby would almost certainly be fine and even if he did have complications, it probably wouldn't be related to his other illnesses (unless they are the result of an immune problem or some other chronic illness) but that's just me. My 100% formula fed brother had it at 3 months and did not have any problem at all dealing with it, though, and my DD was heavily exposed (on a daily basis to two cousins when they had the rash) at 5 months and did not catch it. (We didn't expose her purposely. We were in town visiting when the cousins caught it. We couldn't exactly rush out of town to get away from it and I wasn't really scared anyway, so you know...)
