Vaccinations while breastfeeding?
Hey mamas, I'm sure this has been asked before, but I need to know quickly! We don't vax our kiddos, but I am a student midwife and the placement I am starting the 29th requires me to have the flu vax and any other vaxes that I need (based on a blood test of my immunity etc). I was fully vaxed as a kid, so it will probably only be the flu vax...
Does anyone know or have any studies on the effects of mom being vaccinated on the breastfed babe?
Thanks in advance! :)

I'm genuinely curious. Please don't take this as snark!
Why would you consider vaxing yourself when you do not vax your children?
There are some vaccines that can impact the breastfeeding baby. Any vaccine that sheds could be in your milk supply.
ETA I was also fully vaxed as a kid, but was deemed non-immune to Rubella when pregnant with my first child. I was vaxed after his birth. While pregnant with my second child I was also deemed non-immune to Rubella. Had the vax again. Since then, I have no longer had any vax for myself or my children. But when I was pregnant with my third child just last year...once again I was not immune to Rubella. So the possibility is there for your tests to show otherwise even though you were fully vaxed as a kid.

NO. Who would look at that? The manufacturer?
The flu vax in most (if not all) states is full of mercury. Why would they disclose that?
And in the states that say their flu vax has no mercury, that can be changed in a heart beat and you or your ped would not know.
I would never inject myself if I were nursing - or otherwise.

The reason I'm looking for information and why I would vaccinate myself and not my children is because I need to have this vaccination to be permitted to attend births at the hospital my preceptor has privileges at. I don't get the shot, I can't do this placement, I can't graduate and register. I am more looking for studies and/or scientific info about transmission into breast milk etc. hoping that I can use the info to get an exemption (although highly unlikely). Thanks for sharing.

I would think the only way you might get and exemption is to use a religious exemption OR to make them responsible for any adverse reaction to the child.

I quickly skimmed the product insert, and it says it's safe for breastfeeding mothers ( but says nothing about it passing through breastmilk or safety for the breastfeeding infant)
