Pirate Party ideas???

My son is obsessed with pirates, he will be 3 in June and we will have a pirate party. They kids ages will be 3-6, boys and girls. (that's why I posted here in stead of toddler forum)
I would like to give homemade party favors. So far I have paper hats, I'll make telescopes from fabric rolls and I will make a pirate ship cake.
With all of the creative mama's here I thought you all might give some fantastic ideas:lol
THANKS

^_^:
cookies made with parrot cookie cutter
Pin the eye patch on the pirate
treasure hunt where each child gets the same piece of paper with drawings of the treasures that you have hidden around the house. They all go into a "chest" (cardboard box that's decorated) and then you celebrate
sea shanties on CD or to sing
gold coin candy
each child gets a special pirate name when they get to your house

^_^:
Absolutely a treasure hunt for party favors
You could make eye patches or find them super cheap at a party supply store
Put little skull-and-crossbones on party favor bags
Have a walk-the-plank game where everyone takes turns walking the plank--whether to just jump at the end into grass, or into a kiddie pool, depends on how hot it is and if there will be time for them to get dry before departing!

^_^:
Don't forget the pirate ship cake!
You might want to check to see if there is a local entertainer who comes to childrens' parties dressed like a pirate.
PS: If anyone loses a game, then they have to "Walk the Plank!"

Ooh...we had a pirate party when dd turned 3. (has it been 2 years already?!)
Dh read (in his best piratey voice) "How I Became a Pirate". Since the kids were little, there were many parents there, so I printed up sheets of paper that had the words that the crew shouted. I held each one up at the appropriate time and all the parents joined it. We videotaped it. It was great.
We also played the VeggieTales song "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything" and there was much dancing.
I also managed to make a pirate ship cake (). It wasn't pretty...but it was cool.
Someone mentioned chocolate coins...a must-have. We had eyepatches, bandanas and tattoos for everyone. I had my long-haired, pierced 14 yo friend on hand to apply tattoos. He had a blast (and looked very piratey).
Oh, and we started the party with a craft. I had some cardboard treasure chests for everyone to decorate. It worked well to start with that, as not everyone got there at the same time.

I love this site for party and craft ideas. Here is the link to the pirate section:

Also, here are personal ideas, listed by age, of what people did at pirate-themed parties for their kids and how they turned out:

Arrrrrgh Matey!!!

We did a pirate party for ds' 4th bday.
We were all with games that ds helped to devise, like "Pirate Pirate where's you're gold?" and a cannon ball toss (black water baloons to be thrown at a carboard box that looks like a pirate ship), but the kids had so much fun getting thier faces painted (I painted them like pirates) that we never got around to the games.
I did make a pirate ship cake, which was way cool. And we did a pirate ship pinata. But instead of candy in the pinata we put scrolls with each kid's name and individual clues to where their goody bags were hidden. That was a huge hit! And it eliminated the mad dash for candy that always follows a busted pinata.
For the invitations, I rubbed tea bags on paper, ironed the paper when dry, and printed out a piratey message. Then I burned the edges and rolled each paper into a little scroll. I went to hobby lobby and bought little plastic bottles with corks and some teeny tiny sea shells. I put the shells in the bottles, tied the scrolls with twine, hot glued one end of the the twine to the cork (if you don't do this, you can't get the scroll out), and came up with pirate names for the kids which I glued on the outside of the bottle (Such as Captian Peg Legged John)-and viola! Messages in a bottle. The kids loved em!
If you google Pirate party you'll get taken to tons of great party planning sites. Good luck!

I'm so glad you asked! DS will be 4 in July and we've been planning a pirate party.
At Michaels I was able to get tiny (4" or so) wood treasure chests. Kids will paint those up as favors (they were .50 each).
We have a pirate pinate. I'll fill it with candy and probably some mardi gras beads and such.
For DS (separate from party) I have a wood chest that I am staining and painting and filling with old costume jewelry (from Ebay). We will bury it and get a priate map and go dig it up.
And I am totally going to make that cake. I was going to just do a flat cake decorated like a jolly roger flag - but the ship cake is way cooler. Also will be doing the black cannon ball toss.
ETA - balloon swords are really easy to make. I'll probably set DH to that task too.
