When did your toddler start throwing tantrums?
My ds is 16m and he has begun. As soon as something doesn't go his way, he throws a screaming fit. Case in point: right now I'm on the laptop. He wants me to read him a book. so I read him all his books, TWICE. Then I told him to read them himself and he threw himself on the floor, screaming and wailing.
ARGH.
I suppose it gets worse before it gets better?
^_^:
oh man..... for me it started at about 9 months. at almost 16 months, he is now getting much better.
^_^:
12 months. It was uncanny, one day sweet little baby, the next day tantrum throwing toddler. BTW, I couldn't even fathom the idea of using the computer with my DD in the same room. Or asking her to read books to herself. I almost laughed out loud at the thought, so you don't have it so bad yet.
^_^:
My son started around 18 months, peaked around 3, and is now way better at 3-1/2. His were/are relatively manageable and lasted/last just a couple minutes.
My daughter started around 10 months, and we're right in the thick of it. :dizzy: Hers are - um, not so easy to handle. This girl can SCREAM. And hold a grudge. :lol :eyesroll. It's gonna be a LONG couple years.
^_^:
Well, Remy's always been semi-prone to frustration, so I'm not sure when what we would call a "tantrum" started, but he's definitely started doing the arched back throwing himself on the floor thing sometime in the last few months or so, with an increase in the last 2 weeks. (He's 15.5 months).
I can be on the computer with him in the same room *sometimes* so I guess we're in the middle of that spectrum :lol
Also, they are fairly manageable and don't last too long, though the duration is also getting longer these days -- yesterday I think he screamed/ was upset for almost 5-10 minutes when his dad left without saying goodbye accidentally. (Remy normally has a Very Hard Time with his daddy going to work, but not getting a hug/ kiss goodbye made it a lot harder!)
^_^:
Just shy of 3yo, when ds #2 was born. No tantrums before then.
Now I'm going crazy w/ him having them.:dizzy:
^_^:
Since the day he was born. Lol.
I'm almost serious....about 85% serious. :lol :lol
It was a verrrrrrry loooooooong first year...till he was cognative enough to be taught that he tantrums weren't the avenue to getting what he wanted.
It took determination and patience to teach him the proper way to get something he wanted.
I'm proud to say that at just shy of 3, we're 98% tantrum free. He's only prone to them when very tired (which I try very hard to prevent) or when I'm overly forceful.
He's very consistent with "Please" and "Thank you" and "May I please".
^_^:
He sort of started at 13 months, but lately, at 16 months, he has really refined his craft. :irked:
^_^:
DS is 16 months and yesterday he was a complete monster. He bit, he hit, he screamed, he did everything possible to let me know he was frustrated with me and my lack of understanding him. I cried more yesterday than any other time in his life. No matter what I did it was wrong. It got so bad after he bit my knee that I put his face in my hand and was about to tell him, "no biting" but before I could get the words out, he hit me on the head with his glow worm. I flung the glow worm behind me and it crashed into and shattered the glass in the entertainment center. :( :o
It is oppressively hot in our area, it was 114 over the weekend and he just can't burn off his energy outside. I think the seven days of being cooped up finally got to him and he let go on me yesterday. Today is better. We have been playing outside a bit early this morning (it was only 100 degrees) and he is used crayons to color nicely. After his nap we are going to do some finger painting (never attempted it with him before) and then play in the hose to wash up.
Today's plan was to change things up and do something new and unexpected in the hopes that he would be too confused to be angry. :wink I really hate seeing him so frustrated. Poor baby!....... Poor mommy!
Good luck with your little one's tantrums. Hopefully someone will give us some advice.
